Can You Eat Cookies And Lose Weight?

cookies.jpg

Believe it or not there is a diet called the cookie diet. This particular diet lets you have one meal only per day: dinner. The meal is made of 6 ounces of chicken, turkey, fish or seafood and one cup of vegetables.

The cookie diet frowns on red meats because of the fat content. The only other food on the diet is six ‘special’ cookies per day. The cookies come from the diet creators own bakery are only available to his patients. The cookies on the cookie diet are not breakfast or lunch , but to be used when one is hungry.

Along with the whopping 800 calories, dieters should also have eight glasses of liquid a day, which includes coffee and tea.  Most professionals agree that 800 calories a day is too low and that the cookie diet lacks nutrition.

The cookie diet seems to be just another fad diet that sounds good because of the cookie gimmick. I am a cookie lover but not at the expense of starving the rest of the day and I’m not sure if 800 calories would give me enough energy to pick up one of the cookies…..

How To Fit Into That Dress With A Crash Diet.

crash.jpg

Even though the truth is that the safest, most effective way to lose weight and keep it off is to do it slowly. However, occasionally  we have a function to attend and want to drop a few pounds fast.

Not all crash diets are ;work the same or provide the same results. Juice fasts, cabbage soup diets, and herbal fat-burning pills are still high on the list of ‘dangerous’. The better way to go is the less extreme methods used by the nation’s top weight loss experts.

Salads top the list for crash diets. They’re the perfect food for high fiber and low calories. Replace deserts with strawberries, raspberries, kiwifruit, or melon. These foods will help to take away your swwet tooth.

Cut out the starch but keep the protein. Use lean meats, fish, and yogurt to help with weight loss because they stay in your stomach longer so you don’t get hungry as fast. As well yogurt, when live, can add digestive enzymes

I personally have used this type of dieting for that special occasion but I warn people before hand that that is not the week to ask me for anything….because I’m starving…..

These are just a few ideas for crash diets, however this should not be used as a long term weight loss plan. And as always before beginning any kind of diet especially an extreme one, check with your health care professional.

Revive A Patient’s Breathing With Berman Oropharyngeal Airways

oral-airways.jpg
If you have ever encountered a medical emergency in school, your workplace or even in your home which involved a non-breathing patient then chances are you also panicked (like most people do) and failed to ensure that the patient’s breathing is maintained.   What you know and what you have in terms of home medical equipment can make a difference in the life of the patient so make sure you keep Berman Oropharyngeal Airways handy whether in school, office or in your home.

This small, yet life-saving equipment, can immediately help revive or resuscitate the breathing of a patient who may have stopped breathing for any reason at all.  This product comes in six different sizes and is color coded to allow easy identification.  The non-sterile airways equipment is intended for single use only so make sure you keep an extra or refill your stock once it has been used.

Children may think this piece of plastic is a toy due to its colorful appearance so keep it away from children. It is easy to use and preferably with a tongue blade; just insert over the patient’s tongue to create an airway especially when the patient is unconscious or under anesthesia. Be careful though when you use it on conscious patients as they may struggle when you insert it.  Expect some gagging and vomiting.

Better Health Begins At Breakfast

images.jpg

Breakfast is the most important meal of the day, and not just because it’s been hours since you last ate, and you are really hungry when you wake up. During the night while we sleep, our bodies are still working. Our organs, tissues, and cells keep functioning, and they need fuel in order to function well. That means that the nutrients stored within our body are utilized at night, and we need to replenish the supply in the morning.

In addition, starting the day with a healthy breakfast provides the necessary nutrients needed to start the day. Eating a healthy breakfast restores the glucose level of the body, which gives us energy, and it also stimulates brain activity, which ensures higher concentration, better focus, and makes us more productive and more physically active.

A healthy breakfast should include whole grains, some sort of fruit, protein, and dairy.

Examples of this type of menu would be:

  • Whole-wheat toast, eggs, lean meat sausage, yogurt, and fruit juice.
  • Whole grain cereal or oatmeal, fresh or frozen fruit, and a glass of low fat milk.

Health Benefits To Go Nuts Over

Some of the most popular varieties of nuts are not just good to munch on. They are also packed with unsaturated fats which are good for the body, as well as essential vitamins and minerals.

First, there is the ever-popular almond nuts, which contain a compound called Flavonoid. Aside from helping reduce inflammation, it also acts as an antioxidant as the compound helps fight free radicals. The second type of nuts to provide the ‘wow’ factor in the health benefits department is walnuts. These contain Alpha-Linolenic Acid and Omega-3 fats to help reduce the risks of heart disease and bone breakdown.

Pecans, a favorite dessert ingredient, contain a significant amount of Zinc and vitamin E. Finally, the lovely-colored pistachio nuts contain antioxidant components in the form of Lutein which helps fight ‘bad’ cholesterol.

These nuts may seem small and common, but their nutritional content makes them giants in the health department.

Latest on “The Fertility Diet” Does it Really Work?

 Fruits and Veggies

A Story that was published in the New York Times brought to my attention the question. Does “The Fertility Diet” Really work? Will eating a certain way improve your chance of getting pregnant. Well over the years many nutritionists have talked about how being healthy will improve your pregnancy even before you get pregnant. So is it really a far stretch?

The researchers say that a small portion of the woman tested did get pregnant after using “The Fertility Diet” but there was no proof that the diet directly was the cause of the pregnancy.

There are several skeptics when it comes to the diet and many questions that still need to be answered first however so far there are few reports of side effects from the diet. Remember that you should consult your physician before starting any diet.

The “Fertility diet” does give a little glimmer of hope for the women suffering with infertility. If you are interested in reading more on this book “The Fertility Diet” click here.
