Is There Such A Thing As Negative Calories?

orange.jpg
What is called a negative calorie diet works on theory that certain types of foods burn more calories than they contain. This is supposed to allow you to lose weight.

The negative calorie diet is debated at length because the theory is not scientifically proven. There is really no such food that has negative calories. However, those that believe in the negative calorie diet argue that one can truly eat their way to losing weight.

The reason that some people may lose weight with the so called negative calorie diet is they may actually just be increasing their metabolism.

When on the negative calorie diet, if one eats what are called ‘negative calorie foods’ (an orange for example), the body is left with less calories than was in the food. So if you eat an orange, it takes about 25 calories to digest.

The negative calorie diet requires one to eat frequent healthy meals and doing so is actually increasing metabolism. Increased metabolism can result in weight loss.

So the answer is that there are really no negative calorie foods, but by eating healthy and burning more calories than is ingested, one can lose weight.

Does How Well You Eat Affect How Well You Sleep?

images-2.jpg
The answer to that question is yes. Nutrition actually plays a very crucial part in our quality and quantity of sleep. There are many foods that improve and induce sleep. If you’re troubled with occasional insomnia, you might consider adding these types of nutrients and healthy foods to your diet, as bedtime snacks, and all the time.

Foods that are high in B vitamins are helpful for fighting sleep problems, such as tuna, bananas, sunflower seed, and wheat germ.

Eating foods that contain magnesium will also aid in falling and staying sleep. Almonds, cashews, wheat bran, and foods using brewer’s yeast are good examples.

Spices such as basil, and dill, and even sage will enhance the quality of your rest, and lessen the amount of time it takes you to fall asleep.

Fruits such as berries and leafy green vegetables will make sleep come easier too.

Milk has always been a popular remedy for trouble sleeping, because it contains tryptophan, which converts into serotonin, a natural hormone that promotes sleep. Other foods that have tryptophan are turkey, tuna, honey, and egg whites.

Maintaining the proper levels of all the essential nutrients will help level out an imbalance that could be contributing to the insomnia. You should consult your doctor if your troubles sleeping continue, or have been ongoing.

ApricotBwl.jpg

Apricots are a member of the plum family, which can be bought best and in-season during the month of June. If you are looking for a juicy fruit with a delectable peaches-and-plums-flavor, apricot is exactly what you are looking for.

Eating three apricots a day will provide you half of the recommended daily allowance of vitamin A that you need. The inedible part of the fruit which is the seed has been found to have a high level of vitamin B17 called Laetrile, which helps prevent certain cancers. Apricots are also rich in fiber, potassium, vitamin C, riboflavin, calcium and iron. The fruit also plays a big part in preventing the development of anemia, heart disease, and it helps improve the digestive system and one’s vision.

When buying fresh apricots, make sure that it has a rich orange hue, and the fruit should be a little soft to the touch – which indicates that the apricots are naturally ripened on trees. Apricot by itself is not recommended as a juice drink, but can be blended with other fruits.
