Lecithin Weight Loss- Is It True

 eggs.JPG

Does lecithin weight loss really work? You may have heard this but nutrition experts say we should discard this information since lecithin has no effect on fat. They say that buying supplements is a waste of money because most of us already have enough lecithin in our diet.

There is quite a lot of lecithin in most people’s diet already from eggs, milk, fish, liver, and vegetable oils in general. It is used in food processing to help oil and water mix so it is present in chocolate, ice cream, margarine, many cake mixes, and baked goods.

What is lecithin in the first place? It is a mixture of fats called phosphoglycerides that contain phosphate. Pure lecithin called phosphatidyl choline is found only in research laboratories while the commercial product is an impure mixture of phosphoglycerides extracted from vegetable oils and mixed with simple fats.

Lecithin weight loss is advertised as a weight loss tool which is untrue since the main sources are fattening and large amounts can contribute to obesity. This distorted notion is based on lecithin’s ability to transport fats around the bloodstream. It is, however, useless as far as lecithin weight loss is concerned.

Lecithin is also believed to help lower blood cholesterol levels in some people. Rayner said 12 of 15 patients who took six tablespoons (36 grams) of lecithin granules daily for three months showed a striking decline in serum cholesterol of 41 percent.

Researchers have found that the reason for this is not lecithin itself but linoleic acid, a polyunsaturated fatty acid which is the product of lecithin digestion. In this case, it would be a better choice to eat more vegetable oils which are rich sources of linoleic acid rather than rely on expensive lecithin supplements.

Ask your doctor about lecithin weight loss.

The Top Tips To Lose Weight Naturally

natural.jpg

You should know that there are really only three basic steps to lose weight naturally: eat less, change your eating habits, and exercise. The question is how exactly to start making these changes.

1) Eat Less. Most of us feel that this is easier said than done. It can be easier than you think however. Eat from a smaller plate and trick your brain into thinking you’re getting more food.

2) Change your eating habits. Begin with a small change and move on from there. Try to pick something easy to begin with. Maybe you’re not that fond of chips and wouldn’t mind too much if you stop including them in your daily diet. Eat more fruits and vegetables. Make brown rice with olive oil and sea salt for seasoning. You’ll be amazed at how much better it tastes, and you’ll be cutting out a lot of salt, preservatives, calories, and chemicals in the process.

Cutting out the color white from your diet is a big help as well. In other words, avoid white bread, white rice, bleached wheat products, donuts.

3) Exercise. You don’t have to go crazy by working out for hours a day to begin to see results from exercising. Start where you and lose weight naturally.

Always check with your doctor before beginning any regimen to lose weight naturally.

Does Food Lose Nutrients Over Time

 expired.jpg

The answer to this question depends on the type of food.

One example is a drink product that claims to have Vitamin C in it. The manufacturer of this drink has to put an extra amount of that vitamin in the product because some of the vitamins will deteriorate over a period of time. This depends on the temperature of the storage of the product. The higher the temperature or the longer the storage time, the more of the vitamin will end up deteriorating.

Vitamin C happens to be one of the most sensitive vitamins. If the product is to contain 100% of vitamin C at the end of the shelf life, then the manufacturer may have to put in 200% to begin with because they know that 2 years later it will have lost half of its value.

Fats can also oxidize. If you have ever had a bag of cake flour on your shelf in your kitchen and two or three years later it is full of weevils and you smell it and it has an awful smell, it is usually because the fat that is present in the flour has oxidized.

The moral of the story, it is always best to use your food in a timely manner and check expiration dates to make sure to get the most nutritional value from it.

What You Should Know About Vitamin And Mineral Supplements

 vitamins.jpg

Everyone knows supplements can be expensive but they can be dangerous also.

Vitamins break down into water soluble and fat-soluble. Typically there is more concern with the fat soluble vitamins (A,D, E & K) because they are not excreted from your body. The excess of water soluble vitamins like B and C will get flushed out of the body but with the fat soluble vitamins the excess is retained in your body.

That can get to be a problem if you are taking excessive amounts of vitamin D for example. There is no official figure for how much vitamin D you need, but it should be somewhere in the vicinity of 5 mcg – 10 mcg at the most. For those who don’t get exposure to sunlight, you can get vitamin D in cod-liver oil but be careful not to consume more than 20mcg’s. Vitamin D is toxic at very low levels, so having too much in your system can be dangerous.

There are very well documented cases of vitamin overdoses and the consequences of taking too much of one vitamin or mineral. You must be careful. Most will tell you how much to take on the label.

If you intend to eat that day as well as take the supplements, you could be over-dosing yourself on that particular vitamin or mineral. I can become difficult to know if you are getting the right amount of nutrients.

Talk to your doctor about the correct supplements for you.

How To Get A Balanced Diet

pyramid.jpg

What exactly is a balanced diet and how do you get one?

Following the food pyramid is a good place to start and maybe it’s the best place for some people. If you take all the food somebody eats at the end of the week and look at how much variety there was, you will find that there really wasn’t that much variety.

People generally have a dozen foods they like to eat and they will end up eating the same foods day after day for most of their life and that is where one runs into problems. You get stuck in a rut and fail to use a variety of foods in your diet and fail to get the nutritional balance that you should be getting.

If you know nothing about food but incorporate a lot of variety of fresh fruit and vegetables, cereals, dairy, protein sources, small amounts of “good” fats, and legumes and nuts into your diet the chances of your missing out on the right nutrients essential for good health are lowered.

The point is the more variety you can get in your diet the greater the possibility that if you are lacking in something that you are going to get it.

As well, one needs to look at the food labels. With just a little bit of knowledge of how to read food labels and what you need you can make the right choices it shouldn’t be difficult to have a balanced diet.

Are There Specific Foods That Burn Fat

fatburning.jpg

The answer to this question is basically no. If you are looking to burn fat or lose or maintain your weight everything comes down to an energy balance.

However, researchers are constantly looking for foods that could burn fat. Some of the researchers and studies concentrate on milk and dairy products that have been theorized to burn fat through increasing inadequate calcium intake. Some researchers and studies concentrate on finding a specific diet that will burn fat like a high protein diet.

While there is evidence both for and against specific foods that burn fat, it has never been proven beyond a shadow of doubt that there is any one type of food or type of eating that can actually burn fat.

When it comes down to it, it is a marketing myth that just got so blown out of proportion and large that everyone started to talk about it, and pretty soon, people started to believe that food could burn fat.

In reality food provides energy and nutrients, but cannot burn fat. Of course one should eat a healthy, balanced diet to provide their daily nutritional needs. When you are eating healthy food this will supply the energy for you to do fat burning activities, such as exercising.

Do You Know What Cardiopulmonary Bypass Is

bypass.jpg

To fix most cardiac defects, the heart surgeon requires a bloodless, motionless field in which to work. To achieve this, the motion of the heart and lungs must be stopped.
For this to happen, there needs to be a means for blood to circulate through the body, delivering the necessary nutrients and oxygen to maintain life, while the heart and lungs are stopped. This is made possible through a process known as cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB).

Clear tubing (PVC) contains the patients’ blood as it is removed from the body. Large bore catheters (called cannula) are placed in the right side of the heart, allowing the desaturated blood from the body to enter the cardiopulmonary bypass unit. The PVC tubing runs through a mechanical pump that can be regulated to the proper cardiac output for a particular patient.

For example, a 5-year-old child has a much smaller cardiac output than an adult does; so the pump must run at a higher rate for an adult patient than a child. More tubing sends blood from the mechanical pump to a gas exchange device called an oxygenator, or artificial lung.

The oxygenator performs the same job as the lungs: oxygenation of the blood as well as removal of carbon dioxide. This re-oxygenated blood is then put back into the body through other tubing placed in the aorta.

Cardiopulmonary bypass permits the patients’ blood to bypass the heart and lungs, giving the desired bloodless, motionless operative environment while still supplying all the other organs of the body with a constant supply of oxygen and nutrient-rich blood.
