Fat-Fighting Foods Series: Beans

For those of you who missed the start of our fat-fighting foods series, this is the second post for my list of foods which help you do that exactly: fight fat.

Beans are considered as a superfood and a fat-fighting food because of its high dietary fiber content. They are high in complex carbohydrates and dietary fibers. Beans are also known to be low in sodium, calories and fats – the bad ones at least – because they are a good source of Omega-3 fatty acids which is good for the heart.

Now, the dietary and soluble fiber content of beans is what makes them a fat-fighting food. When you eat beans, you will feel full for a longer amount of time as compared to snack foods that you just munch on. They only temporarily fulfill your cravings. With beans, your blood sugar will be stabilized over the day so you will not feel those hunger pangs as often as you would by light snacking.

In addition, foods like beans which have high fiber content takes longer to eat and they are not that easily emptied from the digestive tract. The result? Those who are on  a diet will fill fuller longer, and not have those unnatural cravings anymore.

Here is a quick list of the bean variants that you should include in your diet:
• Kidney  beans
• Black beans
• Navy beans
• Pinto beans
• Chickpeas or garbanzo beans
• Soybeans

Handheld Portable Nebulizer

medical8.jpg

A handy nebulizer like this handheld portable nebulizer will make medication time easier and fuss-free.  Most nebulizers tie you up to the wall socket but not anymore.  There are various brand choices when it comes to a portable nebulizer like the Omron, TransNeb or Ultrasonic.

This home medical equipment allows you or your children to get better home healthcare even outside your home!  You can carry it anywhere so you can lead a quality life and not limited to just the four-walls of your home.  It has a battery and car charger so you can place one in the car in case anyone gets an asthma attack on the way to school or right after a school game.

Most nebulizers have ear-splitting sound that irritates but this one has a low-noise level and is lubrication-free. It does not take a lot of space as it measures 4.8 inches tall and 3.375 inches wide.  There is even a compartment which allows you to easily hide the cord and other accessories.

Fat-Fighting Foods Series: Apples

I recently stumbled upon an ad for an e-book which promises to provide readers with a list of “fat-fighting” foods which you can actually eat, instead of avoid. The result is that the foods that you will consume will be actively fighting the fat on your diet. This is especially helpful for those who are tired of looking for ways to reduce the food on their plate in order to shed off those excess pounds.  I decided to have my own list of fat-fighting foods and this is what I have come up with.

The first item on our fat-fighting foods series is apples. Apples are a great source of dietary fibers and vitamin C. The cliché about an apple a day keeping the doctor away holds true – since there are dozens of health benefits that you can enjoy from apples.

However, the reason why this is number one in our list of fat-fighting foods is that the skin of the fruit contains pectin. This is a type of insoluble fiber which serves as a natural appetite suppressant.

When you are really hungry, grab the largest apple that you have in the kitchen – whether it is green or red. The bulky fibrous content of apples will help you feel full immediately. As a result, your hunger pangs are sated, and your tendency to overeat will be significantly controlled. Sounds too easy? That’s because it is.  Watch out for the next food item in our fat-fighting food series.

Apple Cider Vinegar Weight Loss In Pill Form

11.JPG

One of the most sought after benefits of apple cider vinegar has been the weight loss it helps promote. As well, it naturally helps your body get rid of excess fluids, helps speed up a slow metabolism and helps to “curb” your appetite. Apple cider vinegar weight loss products have been “re-discovered” and are now being used by millions to aid them in their weight loss endeavors. However, the taste has remained a problem but using the pill form can fix that problem.

Apple cider vinegar weight loss tablets help to release the fat deposits which have accumulated on the stomach, hips, legs and buttocks. They can also prevent new fat from penetrating the cells by redirecting it to the muscles where it is burned off, thereby eliminating fat deposits.

Some may as if the apple cider vinegar weight loss pills pose a health hazard. The natural ingredients in the apple cider vinegar weight loss tablets do not solve your fat problems chemically. They help solve it biologically. And there seems to be no side effects. The apple cider vinegar weight loss capsules are said to gently eliminate the toxins and excess weight, make you feel better, more energized and lose weight

Apple cider vinegar is used by many people for overall good health.. It is a naturally high fiber nutrient which can help support lower cholesterol levels, improve prostate health for men and offers vitamins, mineral and amino acids that offer great health benefits.

As your doctor about the benefits of apple cider vinegar weight loss in your case.

Are You Really Getting All Of Your Nutrients

nutr.JPG

Once your body has digested and absorbed the food you are eating, are you really getting all the benefit from the nutrients?

Before the nutrients that are contained in the foods you eat have actually entered the blood stream, the nutrients are not actually considered to have entered your body. So you can actually eat a whole lot of good food without correctly absorbing its nutrients.

You can ensure that you absorb the maximum amount of nutrients from your diet with a number of techniques. Two of the major factors in the way to actually get the nutrients you eat would be to limit caffeine and alcohol intake. Alcohol can reduce the secretion of digestive enzymes that help to break down food and caffeine can reduce your body’s absorption of iron.

Stress can also play a role in not allowing your body to absorb all the nutrients available in your diet. So if you want your body to absorb the maximum amount of nutrients, keep caffeine and alcohol intake to moderate levels. If you still want to have your morning coffee, make sure that it is consumed at least an hour away from breakfast.

Do Cravings Tell You About Lacking Nutrients

sweet.jpg

There is a theory that people will have a specific craving for certain foods that will provide a nutrient that is lacking in the body. Is this really the case?

In today’s world (except perhaps in some third world cultures) it has not been documented that there is a metabolic reason for food cravings. It is a more likely scenario that when a person is used to consuming foods like sugary sweets and that is all one eats, the body’s metabolism adapts and the body will guide you to the foods that the body is used to consuming.

An example of the above feeling on the theory that cravings are a signal that the body is lacking nutrients would be someone who has gone on a vegetarian diet and completely eliminated meat from their diet temporarily. When the person starts to reintroduce meat into their diet, their stomach becomes upset.

The person’s stomach is not used to digesting that kind of food. They have adapted to digesting just non-meat items. There are food digestive adaptations to the kinds of food that you eat. There seems to be a general feeling that those are the kinds of foods that you get used to.

However, if you have questions about this in your case, ask your doctor.

How Is Cardiac Exercise Testing Done

tread.jpg

Cardiac exercise testing is a valuable tool for gaining information about a patient’s heart and heart functioning, and their aerobic fitness.

Most cardiac tests are done with a person at rest, but most of the time people are active. Cardiac exercise testing can give information about how the heart responds to the extra demands of activity.

The graded cardiac exercise test collects information that is key for defining how a patient’s heart responds to various levels of exercise and assesses their level of fitness.

Based on the patient’s needs, age or ability, the exercise may be carried out on a treadmill, a stationary bike, or an arm ergometer.

On the treadmill, the cardiac exercise test consists of escalating stages that vary in speed and elevation. Tests performed on the bike or arm ergometer also progress through stages with resistance or work increasing with each stage.

The patient will have a blood pressure cuff on their arm. Blood pressure will be monitored at various levels of the exercise test.

To monitor the heart, an electrocardiogram (EKG) consisting of 10 electrodes will be attached to the patient’s chest.

A mouthpiece and nose clip may be used to measure the patient’s breathing and the volume of oxygen used during the test.

For more detailed information about the cardiac exercise test, ask your doctor.

What Is Cardiac MRI And Who Needs One

mri2.JPG

MRI is the acronym for Magnetic Resonance Imaging. MRI uses a powerful magnet, radio waves and a computer to get pictures of any body part, including the heart. Cardiac MRI does not expose the patient to any radiation.

Who needs a cardiac MRI?

Cardiac MRIs are used for evaluation of patients with very specific heart conditions, usually those with previously operated congenital heart disease.

A cardiac MRI takes very clear pictures of the heart and blood vessels in the chest. Cardiac MRI is also able to provide detailed measurements of certain heart parameters unavailable by other means.

A Cardiac MRI test is performed by a specially trained MRI technologist, MRI Radiologist, an MRI Physicist, and a MRI Cardiologist. The test will be read by both a MRI Cardiologist and MRI radiologist.

Most patients do not require sedation. Some patients have claustrophobia and for these patients a small dose of Valium usually helps them to tolerate the scan.

Patients also must be able to follow instructions carefully, particularly in holding their breath for several seconds on command.

The only implanted devices absolutely not allowed in the MRI scanner are pacemakers and defibrillators, since the powerful MRI magnet may disrupt these devices. The magnet does not disrupt function of other metal devices, such as implanted articial heart valves. But any removable metal should be removed.

Check with your doctor for more info on Cardiac MRI.
